Ok here goes:
Dale stabbed Crystal because he blamed her for not making it to the
Olympics. He panics and calls Shane. Shane helps Dale dig the grave
and after putting Crystal in he shoots Dale in the back of the head
with the shotgun.
Trisha
Response: Thanks for the theory.
Todays the day that crimescene gets upgraded,
i cannot wait--it will will be great,
cuz--todays the day crimscene is upgraded!
Mitch
P.s whatever clues are found todat/tommorow i still think the son
SHANE did it.
Wheres is that luggage?
Mitch
Response: We would like to knw where that luggage is, too, Mitch. Keep up the good work.
It was shane that killed the brother and sister he did by hem self
he shot the brother in the head and knifed hes sister then got reed
of them the shane called in the call to the police at the pay phone
he started to fell bad for hes parents i have no prove at all
slap 51
Response: Thanks for your theory.
How long would it have taken Shane Taylor to drive from his home
to the cemetery?
Response: Not long. Probably at most 5 or 6 minutes. This is a very small town, remember.
Dear Detectives
I am writing about the Taylor case with the missing skaters. The
first thing is that Shane in his interview always reffered to his
brother and sister in the past tense. It says nowhere in the reports
that he knew they were dead.
I think it was the father and brother together with an unknown
accomplice. The Dad stated he got up at 2.30 while Shane and the Mum
say they got up at 3.00. Why would the Dad get up earlier? I think he
had secret plans to tamper with things in their luggage. The brother
got no funding from the Mum and Dad for his music, the other two got
funding for trips and skating gear! The brother is seriously jealous
of his siblings and the Dad is seriously disappointed about the
skaters not making the Olympics. They both have motives to kill the
skaters so why not do it together?
Did the father go to work that day?
Did Shane go out?
At any point were the father and son out together?
If so then they could have taken one person each, a different weapon
and killed them. The cemetry would be reasonably quiet on a Monday
night so why not bury them and everyone will be satisfied!
Vicky
Private Detective!!!!!
Response: The discrepancy in Jim Taylor's times was covered in his second interview. He and Mrs. Taylor both got up between 1:30 and 1:40 a.m., Shane got up at 3:00 a.m.. Dad and Shane were not alone at any time. They packed the car and Shane drove Crystal and Dale to the bus. Father did go to work, as usual. Thanks for your theory.
I believe Jim (their father)has a motive .If he was already
up and dressed when Shane drove them to the bus stop , he could have
told his wife he had to go to work . He could have then called his
workplace and said that he was running late. His temporary absence
would most likely not have been noticed . He then could have followed
Shane and the others to the bus stop . Seeing the arguement between
Shane and his other children, he saw an instant scapegoat. He
followed them to the Bus stop . When Shane dropped them off , he
waited a few seconds until Shane was out of sight. He then pulled up
next to them , he was probably speeding , and yelled at them to hurry
up and get in . When they asked what was wrong , he could have said
something like "It's your mother ..." and acted distraught .he then
could have taken
them to a secluded area near the cemetary and killed them .
He then could have hidden their bodies temporarily and gone to work
as usual . Later on , after the working day was over
he would go home as usual. After his living family was asleep
he could sneek out and bury them in the occupied grave under the
cover of night. His motive , you ask ?He wanted his kids to do their
best. He was extremely dissapointed when they placed 7th and after
his sucess as a skater he just couldn't accept it . He held his 2nd
and 3rd born children in such high esteem that he couldn't accept
such a staggering loss
by his "little angels". He may not have shown this anger and
emotional crisis on the exterior but on the inside he was plotting
and scheming to purify his little flawed angels .
He may or may not be a religous man , but after a crisis such as he
went through anyone would have to either forgive
or obtain or even condemn some higher power .
-Heidil9007-
Response: Thank you, Heidi, for you theories.
Were there any tickets found on the bodies? If so, were the
tickets stamped, proving they had boarded the bus.
THANK YOU
Response: Yes, the Magnolia Transit tickets and the airline tickets were found in Crystal Taylor's fanny pack buried with her. They did not board the bus.
Has anyone interview the coach of the victim's if he was
around at the time of the murder's.
Response: The coaches were interviewed on 2/6 and will be again.
hi, did the two have a trainor? something is missing form this
crimescene, a murder/murders have been commited and if a family
member is not the actual murderer then a new suspect must be
introduced. ? could the bus drivers wife be concidered a suspect? i
know this a grasp of something way out there. but, i am stumpt so
far. looking forward to your update.
Response: The Taylor's had a total of four coaches. They have been interviewed. The bus driver and his family are not considered suspects, they have solid alibis.
Det Nelson
From what I've read on this case, (Skaters) I seems the Brother had
the most to gain, By getting the Brother and ister out of the
way.
I believe he said he only had half the money to get his CD pressed.
Now It's coming out next month. And how much money did they leave
home with? I can't believe they only had around $115.00 between them?
For such a trip.
The brother said he pulled off the road on the way to the Mall. maybe
he got them out of the car Shot them then buried them.
Thank You
Bob Anderson
Response: The parents report that they had $1,000 in traveler's checks in their luggage. The luggage has not been located. Thanks for the theory.
was their any food found in their stomaches?
were there any tire trscks found anywhere around the cemetary?
Is there a time that the cematary closes? If so does it have gates
walls or what?
Response: 1) Yes. 2) No. 3) It is always open. 4) No gates or walls. It is open.
It's Shane. HE talks of them in the past tense when he is not
supposed to know that they are dead and his story always contradicts
itself.Arrest Him.
Response: We need hard solid evidence before we do that, but thanks for the theory.
Are there gates on the cemetary? If so what time do they unlock
the gates. Was the grave previouslly dug for use by another occupant?
Was there already someone else buried there? If so, what was the name
on the head stone? Was this the closest grave to the cemetary
road?
Response: No gates. It is always open. It was a fresh, recent grave. No one else besides previous occupant and Taylors there. The name on the headstone is Mattie Jordan, age 83. Widow, died of heart failure, no children. Not the closest, not the fathest either.
1)They said that they had a big breakfast, during the autopsy was
their any evidence of food found in their stomach?
2)They left the house pretty early did any of the neighbors see or
hear them leave?
3)You say dad was dressed. How was he dressed? Was he wearing sweats
or jeans, shirt and socks etc.
4)Both dad and son loaded the car with their belongings. Did they
ever really get loaded into the car?
Was the Taylor residence searched for suitcases and was a description
of said suitcases obtained?
5) They said it was customary for shane to take them to the bus
depot, but the bus driver says that usually their dad took them or
they drove them selves.
6) Has anybody checked their bank accounts to see if any large
amounts of money have been removed since their disappearance.
7) Moms discription of what they had on is different from what they
had on when they were found.
8) Was Crystal stabbed standing up or sitting down?
9) Was the boy shot standing up or sitting down?
10) How many miles was it to the Big Star bus depot from the
house?
11)How many miles was it to the grave yard from the house and how far
was it to burger king?
12) Dale acted really weird during his interview-was he gay and thats
why the kids treated him different?
In the interview with Shane it was never covered what he and Crystal
argued about, this was sort of breezed over and he went straight on
to describe what Crystal and Dale argued about. Do we know what
Shanes argument with Crystal was about??
Response: 1) Yes. 2) No neighbor sightings. 3) Casual clothes. 4) As far as we know. The luggage has not been found. 5) The driver's statement is interpretted to mean that normally they drove to Memphis, not take the bus. 6) No strange transactions. 7) There is a missing jacket. 8) The coroner thinks both. 9) The coroner states from above and behind, likely he was bending over. 10) About two or three as the crow flies. 11) About the same all around. 12) He seems to have been indifferent to those around him- he cared about skating only. Shane states the argument was three way regarding finances and that Crystal got testy with Shane when he defended her against Dale's allegations that she was to blame for missing the Olympics.
Ok, here goes. First off, great site, great idea!
Now, I don't think Shane did it. Too obvious. We know that the kids
didn't have an 'inordinant' amount of life insurance and the parents
really don't have anything to gain by killing their kids. Do we know
the calibre, make or model of the shotgun? If so, how readily
available is it in local stores? Was is purchased out of
city/county/state? What is the significance of the grave picked to
bury them in? How long had they been in the grave? How long had they
been dead before being buried? Any carpet fibers on Crystal since she
was probably in a trunk for some amount of time? Any unusual tire
tracks around the cemetary? Footprints? Unless Dale was made to carry
his dead sister and dig the grave there would have been more than one
abductor. Any sign of their bags? Why so little money?
Whew. That's enough for now. Thanks,
Jon A.
Response: Thanks for the compliment. The shotgun has not been found, it is thought to be a .12 gauge, no purchase information available at this time. We don't know the significance, if any, of why that particular grave was selected. The coroner estimates they were buried for approximately 16 days. As forensic reports come in, we will keep you updated. Luggage has not been found. The parents report that there were $1,000 in traveler's checks in the luggage.
My tentative theory:
1.both abducted at gunpoint from drop-off
2.girl killed first not at cemetary(blood trail by road)
3.drive to cemetary
4.Dale forced to dig grave for crystal?
5.dale shot and pushed into grave while burying crystal?
Need more information to solve.
Anyone else with motive?
Was Dale upset over missing Nagano? Upset enough to kill Crystal?
Response: Dale was very upset over Nagano. Examining others with possible motives.
Several things stand out: two types of weapons, the positions of
the bodies and the amount of dirt between them, the grave site is by
the roadway, no luggage, the money found doesn't correspond with
their "plans", the number of stab wounds (rage?), their widths &
their depths, where was the gunshot wound (front, side, back?), Was
the shot close up or from a distance and at what angle? The caliber
of the projectile?, The distance & travel time from the bus stop
to the cemetery? Any unusual or unexplained trips by family members,
friends or acquaintances at odd hours, etc.? Where were the dumpsters
emptied? Was the dump checked for evidence? Was the callers voice
male or female? young, mature or older? Any unusual stains, smells or
fibers on the victims clothing? Was the instrument used to dig the
grave a shovel (by hand) or was it heavy equipment? Did the coroner
come up with an estimated time of death after considering
decomposition, lividity, rigor, temperature? Also, was it confirmed
that the causes of death were from the weapons mentioned or were they
already dead and then shot and stabbed later "to be sure"? The fact
that there was little or no blood on the male's clothing may be
indicative that he was already dead before the gunshot "execution
style".
NOTATIONS: The absence of footprints or tire prints in the dirt =
stayed on the asphalt utilizing a vehicle of sorts for
transportation. The position of the female and the fact that she was
deeper is indicative she was buried first (possibly killed first),
and transported within a small compartment such as the trunk of a car
or a chest. The dirt in between both victims makes me believe that
the murders & the burials took place at different times and
instances. The fact that the caretaker didn't notice anything unusual
is because he either didn't pay attention, or that the initial grave
was dug in such a manner that it blended in until the second body was
covered up. Motive? At this point in the investigation it can be a
anyone or anything related or not related to their skating or family.
I can't comment here until there are further interviews between other
family members, friends and acquaintances in the skating (or the
competitive) "arena" (no pun intended).
Response: The autopsy
reports answer a number of your questions: the gunshot wound was
from behind, the coroner estimated the distance between 3 and 4 feet
likely from a .12 gauge shotgun, the best estimate on time of death
was the 24 hour period 2/2 - 2/3. There was blood found on Dale
Taylor's clothing. The Investigation
Progress Report has more information: the landfill was checked
with no findings. The grave was dug by hand to bury the Taylors, it
had been dug by backhoe the prior week. We agree, a vehicle was used
for transportation and that Crystal was killed elsewhere, Dale in the
cemetery. Thanks for your thoughts.
isn't it a little obvious to assume that shane is the killer. even
though he had a motive, it is too early to tell. lfd813
Response: Agreed. (That it is too early to tell.)
When are friends going to be interviewed! also, i think that
shane's band members need to be interviewed. the easy choice is shane
but there isn't enought evidence, i think,to suspect anyone else
yet.
Response: Crystal Taylor's friend Maggie Jenkins and Dale Taylor's friend Christian Chambers were interviewed on 2/6/98.
Shane couldn't have done it. Well, at least he couldn't have done
it alone. How does one person simoultaneously subdue and kill 2
people? It only seems logical that while he was attacking the first
victim, the other sibling would be running for their life! My strong
opinion is that there were at least 2 people involved......for this
scenerio to be realistic, anyway.
Lisa
Response: Shane was much bigger than his brother and sister-don't forget that. And thanks for your theory.
What can i say?........it was the brother...i think jealousy got
the better of him, he snapped....and killed them!
Response: Thanks for the theory.
Mr.Nelson;
Ok,here we go. Maybe you can help me to understand.
1. can the times be pined down just a little bit more?
2. Shane STATED he was back home by 0345
3. Mothers States,Shane told her he was back BY 0400.
4. How long was shane, crystal and dale parked haveing words?
5. If they was there by 0330,they left between 0310-0315
6. how far is it from their home to the bus location?
7. keeping in mind the VERBAL spat.two people mad about what is
said.I'am fure they was parked at least 15 min.
8. was they inside the car or out side the car?
9. What did mother fix for a BIG BREAKFAST for foue (4) adults,at
0230 in the morning finished and on the road car loaded by 0315?
NOTE TO FIX A BIG BREAKFAST eggs/toast/patotes/meat/drink
OR pancakes/eggs/meat/drink. At least 20 minutes to fix
up at 0230, at least 5 minutes in the bathroom, that would leave 5
Minutes. 15 minutes left 10, minutes good-byes.
(even switching the five minutes to breakfast still leaves
10 minutes.the drive lets say 10 minutes.stop for verbal words,if two
people are mad NO Disagerment is going to last 5 minutes so times up
already 0330,that would be 0335(five minutes late,at least 1 minute
to get there.0336,get out toss out bags at least 5 minutes 0341..

Response: The Missing Persons report was made on 2/5. Releasing more information soon that will help with timeframe questions. The grave was not obviously disturbed such that it would be noticable without looking for something out of the ordinary. Shane and the band had the money to cut the CD. The money from the Taylors was for distribution. Mr. Taylor planned to add funding and assistance for that at a later date.
I am writing in regards to the call made about the skaters being
buried in a grave.
I was wondering if the people at the place where the call was made
were asked if they had seen anybody that day talking on the phone
briefly?
Also, were there no kinds of marks left in the graveyard? Anything
like footprints or even tire marks. Surely someone should have seen
somebody out in a cemetery digging up a grave. If they had some kind
of light, which I'm sure they did, couldn't somebody have driven by
and seen it?
Response: No one at Abner's saw anybody. It is a very busy restaurant, and the phone is on the side of the building and away from the entrance or any windows. No marks at the graveyard. The grave was right next to a paved road. No one saw anything or anyone out there; at least, they haven't contacted us yet if they did.
I feel that the brother did indeed drop them off at the buss stop.
But their father met them there to say goodbye and they stepped into
the car and were never seen again.
Response: Thanks for the theory.
I feel that the other members of Shane' band should also be
interviewed.
Possible that Shane removed pic of dad to incriminate
Response: Shane's friends are being interviewed.
Detective Nelson
Are you so sure that the killer(s) were after both Crystal and Dale?
Maybe they were only after one of them and decided to kill the other
one so they won't have any witnesses? Maybe Crystal had an imbalanced
boyfriend or Dale hung out with the 'wrong crows'? Think about
it.
Phanto5692
Response: We are pretty sure that the Taylors were the primary targets.
I think Tonya Harding did it!!!
Response: She's not in town, but a good theory. Kinda glad she's not in town.
Another thought. No luggage? What's with that? If we don't find
their suitcases, then I assume they were never intended to make it on
that bus..
[email protected]
Response: We want to find those suitcases just as bad as you do.
Hellfire.
First off is the fact that I think that Dale was an accompliace in
Crystal's death, or perhaps an unwilling one in her burial.
She was buried two feet deeper then her brother, and was killed in a
different manner. Stab wounds indicate the killer knew the
victim.
I surmise that Dale and an accompliace killed Crystal. Where and how
I don't know. It's exceedingly possible that the Taylor Brothers
offed their sister and then Shane turned on Dade, although I don't
see any motive for Dade to kill his sister. Strange.
See what the canvass comes up with and interogate the mother. She
seems like an easier nut to crack then the father or the brother.
I suspect a family memember, primarily because of the anonymous phone
call. Guilt.
In fact, I believee the father placed the call. Guilt over watching
his wife suffer, agonizing over if they were dead or alive. Could be.
Thoughts?
Response: Thanks for your theories. We are trying to figure out the voice on that call.
Has anyone else that knew the skaters been interviewed?? One of
their closer friends may know something that the family is unaware
of. Such as, if the skaters had enemies they might not have mentioned
it to the parents. Maybe there is something else behind their
disappearance. Interviewing their friends would also help determine
what kind of relationship the two had with their older brother, or
interviewing shanes friends could help to see if he was capable of
doing that..or if he had reason to. Parents are sometimes oblivious
to things......
Thanks for listening,
AnR
Response: We are interviewing more people who knew the skaters. We don't think they had serious, life-threatening enemies, but we are checking around to be sure.
in real life shane would probably be in jail already-but thenthis
sight would suck-so i'd lean toward the father.
1.why was he dressed at 3 am just to go back to bed
2.why didnt crystal carry his picture with everyone elses-could be
something tere.
3.the lack of bruising or cuts suggests victims kne killer
4.shane was caught off guard by questions about the argument on the
way to the bus-if he'd killed them he would have planned ahead and
hid that info.
5.this wreaks of an obsessive stage dad-the parents baically forgot
shane existed-this would seem to implicate shane-but it also shows
how obsessed they were with the success of their other children.ask
any parent if they could willingly sacrifice one child for the
others' benefit.
with more evidence this theory could be way off-but thats where my
gut takes me for now
Response: 1) That is customary for Mr. Taylor. 2) Don't know. 3) Agreed. 4) Seems so. 5)Thanks for the theory.
why was crystal buried 2 ft deepern than dale?also-dales body
showed evidence of being buried soon after being shot-was the time
between death and burial for crystal determined.i cant figure out
why-but i get the feeling dale helped bury crystal and was shot
during that time-crystal and dale had been fighting-and he blamed her
for their failure to reach the olympics.i would lean towards the
father as the murderer for now-it seems strange that crystal had pics
of everyone but him-maybe it's significant-but then why kill
dale?maybe to kep im quiet-about the murder or something else.
Response: We don't have answers to that at this time. Interesting theory, thanks.
why was the father dressed if shane was to drive them?where was
shane when 911 call was made?if not a relative who else could have
hated them that much(whoever made the 911 call wasnt at all
distraught about their deaths)? if all these have been answered
already-forgive me i'm new
Response: We guess the father was just modest, this was his ususal practice. Shane was in Tupelo at the time of the call.
has the time the brother returned home after dropping the victims
at bus stop been confirmed
Resposne: All we have at this time is Shane's version. He says his parents were asleep and he just went to bed.
Well i think that shane was jealous and in a rage killed his
siblings. He had the motive and if on drugs and was not able to think
clearly he could have done it. he drove them to the airport and if he
was the last to be with them then that could make him libal for their
death.......
Response: Thanks for your theory.
I read the interviews and they seemed kind of odd...there was
"missing time" for sake of better words...in Shane's story, in
particular...And what the hell happened at Burger King? Did anyone
see them? Perhaps Shane was stoned and killed his brother
accidentally...and in rage, shot his sister...there is some info we
definitely need...
The Man in the Grassy Knoll
Response: No one saw them at Buger King because it wasn't open. No one saw them period.
Concerning the forum:(in response to below)
My name is Mitch Tremblay--im running the forum.

DID THEY FIND THE VICTIM'S LUGGAGE?
DOES SHANE HAVE AN ALAIBI ON THE DATE THE CALL WAS PLACED AT THE
DEPARTMENT?
WAS A VOICE COMPARRISON DONE ON THE CALLER AND SHANE'S VOICE?
WAS SHANE'S CAR PROCESSED FOR FIBER EVIDENCE?
Response: No luggage. No voice comparison on Shane. No DNA evidence in Shane's car.
i think the father and shane where in on it together. why wasn't
the father still the skater's coach? maybe the father was
disappointed that they didn't make to the nagano?
if the mother was a sleep she wouldn't exactly know when shane came
home, or if her own husband was home.
Response: Jim Taylor recognized early the need for a professional, full-time coach or coaches for his kids. He was dissapointed they didn't make Nagano, but we don't think he was upset enough to kill them.
Didn't say it yesterday, but this is the first time I've
participated in one of these cases. Just want to thank everyone who
has sent in comments. I've learned alot.
Does anybody else think its interesting that Crystal carried pictures
of Mom and both brothers -- but not Dad. Wonder why? Any chance there
was something unseemly going on in that household?
I agree that it is weird that mom and dad were up, but not the ones
to drive the kids to the bus. And, why would dad get dressed and
undressed? (At least, that's what we are supposed to believe).
Perhaps Det. Nelson should talk further with mom -- for some reason I
think she will be easier to get the truth out of than dad.
MCohen/NY
Response: According to the Taylors it was typical for Shane to take them to the bus drop-off point. Thanks for participating in the site and please continue.
Does anybody else think its interesting that Crystal carried

I THINK THAT MORE INFORMATION IS DEFINATELY NEEDED.......LIKE FOR
INSTANCE MORE QUESTIONS FOR THE FATHER SINCE HE WAS UP AND DRESSED,
AND DID HIS WIFE DEFINATLEY SEE HIM GO BACK TO BED, MAYBE THIS IS
SOMETHING THAT THE DAD PLANNED AND HAD SHANE GO ALONG WITH FOR
REASONS WE DONT KNOW YET,MAYBE MONEY? ALSO HOW COULD ALL THIS HAVE
BEEN DONE IN THE TIME FRAME THAT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN SO FAR WE NEED
TIMES OF DEATH FOR SURE......I THINK SOMEONE WAS WITH SHANE AND
HELPED HIM PUT THE BODIES IN THE GRAVE,BECASUE THERE WASNT ENOUGH
BLOOD EVERYWHERE FROM WHERE THE DOG HAD SCENTED IT OUT,FOR HIM TO
HAVE PICKED BOTH BODIES UP AND CARRIED THEM HIMSELF TO THE GRAVE.ALSO
WHERE ARE THE CLOTHES THE DAD AND SHANE HAD ON I THINK WE NEED TO
EXAMINE THESE......
DEFINATLEY NEED MORE INFO TO SOLVE THIS CASE
[email protected]
Response: More information is on the way. Thanks for your theories.
Does the father own a shotgun? What motive would there be in
killing their succesful kids and letting the loser live? I'd
personally kill the loser son if I was going to off somebody. Anybody
else see them at the bus station??
Response: No one saw them at the station. Two rifles were recovered from the Taylor's home, they are being tested.
The brother is being set up.
Are the parents wealthy?
You could always ask Denver Police for assistance on this case, they
seem to be excellant in cover up for parents who murder their
children.
The father did it (in both cases)
Response: The parents are wealthy, yes. We don't trust the Denver Police anymore than you seem to. Thanks for your theory.
Right now everythings pionting to the brother ,to start with I
thought he had killed them too. But the bus driver interview tells me
,somethings not right there .The comment about I would like to say
around 4.00 is one thing, those buses run buy the clock, there on
time .And the comment that he made about them never showing up,
right. To the detective. How did he know this , with out prior
knowlege of what had happened. And when does a bus leave at around
2.30 sharp. it leaves at that time or It doesnt. I think that the
driver needs to be checked out farther ,find out when he knew they
was going to be on the bus. And what possible motives he might have
to see them dead. And his wife also.
Response: We have checked out the driver. He is an upstanding, straight arrow long-time employee of Greyhound and has never had a problem with the company. He liked the Taylors and had no reason to hurt them. His wife is a huge fan of the Taylors also.
from the looks of things there is alot missing like the luggage.it
could be tied to family but need more evidence.
If shane was in need of money for drugs he would have taken the money
and left just the bodies but money wasn't the motive here.all the
kids except Shane did do something with their lives but shane did
not.Jelousy could be a motive here or maybe do to the fact that they
did not make it to the olympics maybe out of dissappointment the
father killed them,or maybe shane and the father killed them.It would
be very easy for them to be accomplices. Both live in the same house
and both could sneak out and back in at the same time with no
problems.about the phone call you should analize the voice and test
both the father and Shane to see if there is a match.
Response: Good theory on the voice testing.
There are a few comments by the bus driver that are questionable.
However, more investigation is definitly in order.
Response: And more is on the way, my friend.
I think Shane did it with any doubt.
Response: Thanks for your theory.
It seems strange to me that the father was dressed at 3:00am, and
then went back to bed. Mom says she was sleeping when Shane returned.
Mom can't be a witness for Dad at this point. He may have slipped out
after she fell back to sleep.
Does Shane know where his parents were when he returned?
Did they have more money, maybe in their luggage? $120 doesn't seem
like much money for 3 weeks in Colorado, even if everything was
prepaid. Has their luggage been found?
Response: Shane says they were asleep as far as he knew. $120
does seem insignificant, traveler's checks are missing, they may be
with the luggage. Their luggage has not been found.
Hello,
Would like to see indepth interviews with Crystal's friend Maggie and
Dale's friend Christian. Need further follow up on Shane's
whereabout's the previous evening before bedtime and follow up
interviews with Father, Mother and Jonathan Giles may lead to more
clues. What happened to the luggage? Since it was not found. Should
check dumpsters, landfills, rivers, lakes etc. Lastly look where
homeless or transients are common because if the luggage was left
unattended with noone in view someone of that type may have acquired
the luggage and would not necessarily volunteer the information
especially if they saw something that scared them.
[email protected]
Response: Those interviews are on the way. Luggage not found yet. We are checking various places it might be.
hello.....
Much more is needed to solve this case. Although it seems most likely
that Shane is the murderer at this time, I believe with further
evidence we will find that either he was not involved or he had help.
The father and mother seem suspicious to me...The disappointment of
nagano may have been too much for the father especially. I think
other family members and friends of all three children should be
interviewed. Also the parents and shane should be reinterviewed..why
was it that shane drove them? why not the parents since they were
already up? Also...is all the money they had on them? Interviews with
passengers on the bus may help. Was burger King dumpster and
bathrooms searched and the outside searched? Maybe search of the
parents' home inside and out? sHANES CAR AND FATHERS CAR SHOULD BE
SEARCHED ALSO. Is it determined that the murders did not occur at the
grave, but elsewhere? Has a positive id been made on the bodies? At
this time i think way too many questions need to be answered. What
were results of crime analysis on evidence found at crime scene?Any
fingerprints on anything? All three had different times for when
shane left and returned, granted it wasn't a big difference, but
every minute counts in a murder. It is strange that it took a half
hour to get to drop off place and only fifteen to get home, but that
could have been because of the argument the siblings had, and the
stop at burger king. I think one of the comments i read made a good
point, about who was buried recently at the cemetery. Are any of
those six people known to the Taylor family? Or any friends of the
kids? The person that called needs to be found, voice analyzed and
compared to all family memebers and friends to see if it was any of
them. hmmmm....strange case......aren't they all though....
[email protected]
Response: No fingerprints at the scene. It was customary for Shane to drive them. No one recently buried at the cemetary has a connection to the Taylors.
Tue Feb 24 23:53:06 PST 1998
They were killed with a gun and a knife, right? I remember Crystal
saying in the interview that most every one their age were deer
hunters.... When people that I know deer hunt they take a gun to kill
and a knife to gutt!!! What kind of gun shot was it? Rifle? Shotgun?
Sounds like a deer hunter did this. I guess we will know more onced
the bodies are examined.
Response: The coroner's report will provide more information for us on this. Most deer hunters use rifles for their sport.
Tue Feb 24 22:52:47 PST 1998
Sounds like so far with all the information about the crime is
that the older brother did have something to do with it, but I
wouldn't be surprised if there was a set-up going on here. Would
really help if the weapons were found. Maybe they are hidden
somewhere in the car? Was the cemetary grounds searched for the gun
or knife, which was thrown or discarded somewhere on the cemetary
premises by the killer? It definitely would have the fingerprints of
the murderer on them, thats for sure
Response: No weapons found in the car, no weapons found on the cemetary grounds. Crime scene was clean of everything of that nature.
My first time on the net into this area.
I sure hope you have more information on this case than you have
released.
Telephone call to station: May I suggest a voice pattern. go to the
home and have a conversation with shane.
Robery;No
Everone of the children has made something of themselfs,Except
Shane.
Shane; had/has serious problem with Reacreational Drugs.
i.e.= personality change/PARANOID/BECAME MORE WITH DRAWEN TO THOSE
AROUND HIM/lIVED ON THE STREETS/PLAYED GUITAR FOR TIPS.
I would like to know the period of time shane was on drugs.
Dale being an ice dancer, seem to me he would have a lot of strength
as well as Crystal.
WAS SHANE A MATCH FOR HIS BROTHER (Dale)? I feel is was.
I feel Shane dug the grave five feet down after he was seen at his
home let it be known that he was going to bed and shortly left his
parents home to despoise of the bodys.
he had told his parents he would be out late.
To me this gave him time to kill Dale and Crystal, hide them and
return later.
The grave was dug at night time when the caretaker was not around nor
would he be around. Driving black-out into the graveyard moving
slowly as not to be noticed.
REASON;If Dale and Crystal had been murdered at the grave there would
have been a lot more blood soced dirt.
I feel Shawn killed them when the two was not togather.
Reason; Dale would have been to much for shawn to manage if sister
was murdered first.Shawn would have several injuries on him from
Dale.
Same with sister Shane should have had bites/scratches/kick marks
from her strong legs.
So I feel Shane murdered Dale and Crystal out of jealousy/spite.
He is a no body, mommie and daddy may have told him why can't you be
more like your brothers and made something of yourself, even your
Sister is somebody.I feel Sahne FELT like the black-sheep of the
family, and having a drug problem and being paranoid enhansed the
problem of being the loser.
with Dale and Crystal being out of the way no more
fame/spotlight/populiriary.only Shane at home.no more why's
from anyone. other brother is not at home. so now Shane has mommie
and daddys all to himself at home alone now.
If there was more information i may come up with something/someone
else. ladybluethunder
as well as sister would have
Response: Thanks for your theories. We cannot do a voice match on the tip because we have to have a voice recorded somewhere else to match it to, to match the patterns. We do not have that. Shane's voice does not sound anything like the tipster's voice, he was in Tupelo at the time of the call. Shane has been on drugs for a long time.We are gathering more evidence, though, and will be posting it soon to help with the case.
Was skin, hair, or threads from clothing found under the victims'
fingernails?
Was there any sign of a struggle?
Were Shane or his parents checked for scratches? Were their clothes
checked for rips?
Response: Crystal's fingernails may provide some evidence. No scratches or ripped clothes for the Taylor's.
What the hell happened at Burger King? I want to know! I think at
least someone there must have seen them...or a passing car perhaps or
two...plus what if, Shane was stoned when his parents woke him
up...it is not entirely out of the question...then he would not have
known what he had done particularly if he mixed drugs with
alcohol...
Response: Burger King wasn't open at the time (it was three-thirty in the morning) We think Shane was sober at the time that he drove his brother and sister to the drop-off point.
Well I think that if indeed these two bodies that were found are
the Taylor kids-the killer didn't want them to reach their
destination. This was a revenge or jealousy kill. These kids had all
of their belongings with them and everything was already set up. I
think they should interview the stations depot ticket person, someone
had to be there when they arrived and if it took them 30 minutes to
get there-why did it take Shane 15 minutes to get back. I think that
Shane had some part in this crime and that the boy was killed first
and then the girl. I wonder if the kids had a life insurance
policy.
Response: Thanks for your theory.
What's there to say there is just one perpetrator of the crime?
What if there's two? One requires a shotgun, and the other had
several knife wounds...Without the time of the death of Crystal and
Dale, it cannot be assumed that it is just one killer...Revenge would
seem to be an appropriate motive, but not necessarily the right
one...I think the evidence currently is providing very little insight
on the murder investigation..
Response: Thanks for your theory.
Stabbed and Shot?? Isn't that overkill??
KimLinci
Response: To each his own, I suppose.
Hello,
With the limited information given and the time frame there is only
one batch of evidence that so far has any lead to the killer in my
opinion. Dale Taylor was killed instantly with a gun shot wound to
the back of the head, but Crystal was repeatedly stabbed to death.
This leads me to think that Dale was killed first to get him out of
the way because the intended victim was Crystal and the killer wanted
to torture her first before killing thus the slower death by
stabbing. The killer therefore was either jealous of her or perceived
her as needing punished for some unknown reason. I feel that the
autopsy reports will be vital in giving details of depth of wounds
and strength of killer also placement of stabs may show either
knowledge of anatomy or lack there of. The first hint that Shane
might have done this should be considered only by time frame before
looking further. Would he have had enough time to drive them, kill
them, dig grave 5 ft deep to bury Crystal then cover her and then
bury Dale on top and cover grave then return home before parents
would wake up again? If you assume that the grave was already dug why
wouldn't the caretaker have noticed it as I am sure that he had to
check the recent graves to dispose of dead and wilted flowers before
they became debris through out the cemetery. Am looking forward to
more clues since I do not think this can be solved on just this
information alone.
[email protected]
Response: Just stick with us. More investigation information and interviews will be made available as the case goes on.
Jonbenet comes to mind....Was Daddy living his Olympic dreams
through his children?..and when they failed to reach Nagano...and
then wanted out of skating all together....
Response: We think that Jim and Sandy Taylor both were living
through their children, but we don't think that they would hurt them,
much less murder them.
Who else had been recently buried in that cemetary? Could any of
them have had family members or friends that knew any of the key
players involved with this case. The reason I ask is because why
would someone off the top of their head just "think" about disposing
two dead bodies in a cemetary, in a recently dug grave on top of a
coffin? Seems that who ever did this may have had prior knowledge of
what was happening in the cemetary or better yet wanted to at least
get the bodies into a "proper cemetary" because of of religious
overtones, and I sensed these from the Foot Prints In The Sand card
found on Crystal. Shane may have hated them but he also loved them to
if he turns out to be the guilty party. Yet tis all speculation at
this time.
See ya
Response: There have been six burials at the cemetary since Janurary 1st. All of them were elderly people who died from extended illnesses. Thanks for your theory.
I re-read and noticed that Shane had said when he woke up that his
dad was up and dressed, isn't this odd for someone returning back to
bed a few short moments later... Also, the father was failed to be
questioned in regards to him hearing Shane return or Shane as to the
fact of seeing both parents asleep, cars there, etc.
Shane's guilt is almost too obvious at this point, is he being
set-up??? Maybe he is in a bind in the drug ring somehow and the
siblings took the fall......
Dad is far too innocent so far as well, maybe he was jealous of the
wife's involvement...
Crystal stabbed, and a shot gun for Dale, maybe we have 2 murderers
and as much as I resent my siblings at times, when it came to the
wire I would have to fight for them...
Food for thought, I guess
Response: We don't know if Shane is being set up, but we will find out. Thanks for your theory. We think that Dale would have fought for Crystal too.
Was there any sort of insurance policy on Dale and Crystal?
Did Jim and Sandra have a substantial amount of money that someone
may have kidnapped the kids for and then during the process something
went wrong and the kids were taken out prematurely?
When did Roger (bus driver) first see the manifest for the passengers
he would be picking up that morning? Being that the Taylors have to
schedule days, weeks and sometimes months in advance for trips,
registrations etc... could Roger have early acess to this information
enabling him to plan an abduction?
Who else was on Rogers list that morning?
What type of "characters" did Shane run with, seems he had acess to
"seedy characters" with the type of lifestyle he was involved in and
may have saw his brother and sister as an opportunity to make a few
dollars off his parents with the help of some "thugs" he may have
come across. It still throws me for a loop as to why Shane got up
that morning to drive them to the bus stop.
Also how far away was the bus stop from the house and if the parents
were asleep when Shane returned just exactly what time was it when
the saw Shane for the first time after they woke up?
Response: Standard life insurance that most parents have on their kids. Jim Taylor is well off but that information is not public knowledge in Oxford. Jetton saw the manifest in Memphis before he boarded the bus to get going. Several passengers were on the bus. Businessmen, etc. They all check out. Shane has some ties through music to the Oxford drug scene but what we consider the "tame" Oxford drug scene, the recreational kids who use drugs much like they use alcohol, for fun and a good time. We don't think that Shane was involved with anyone that would do something this horrible. The Taylor house is between two and three miles from the drop-off point.
Knowing that Shane would be out late that evening playing in his
band why would he be the one to take them to the bus stop? After all
his mom and dad got up with them and had breakfast, seems to me they
would be wide awake and drive them. Instead they wake Shane up at
3:00 a.m. and then climb back into bed after breakfast and all the
"excitement" and "commotion" of the two kids leaving for training
which leaves Shane, who is "groggy" and mumbling remarks of
discontent about how his siblings are more privledged than he.
Hmmmmm......... makes me wonder.
Response: It was customary for Shane to make these drop offs. According to the family Mrs. Taylor becomes quite emotional over the goodbyes.
The situation doesn't look good for Shane; but the investigation
has been woefully inadequate. Why was the bus driver interviewed on
the phone? Was a records check done on the driver? A few of his
responses were odd. ("around 2:30 sharp"?) Moreover, if the drivers
keep lists for 90 days of the passengers, everybody on that list
needs to be questioned. Determine who was the first to arrive for the
bus that morning and at what time. Determine if any of them ever saw
the pair waiting for the bus. If not, it's back to Shane. I think
that possibly Dale killed Crystal due to his anger at her errors
which caused them to fail to qualify for the Olympics. Then Shane and
Dale together dug the grave, which Shane then put both siblings into
after killing Dale for having killed Crystal and for having laughed
at him earlier(but where'd the gun come from?) Note the presence of
blood on Dale only at the grave site, indicating that Crystal may
have died elsewhere. I think Dale helped to dig his own grave. The
phone call is from someone who cared enough to want the bodies found
and properly buried. Or, from Shane's perspective to end the still
on-going attention from his parents towards his brother and
sister.
Response: The bus driver was interviewed on the phone because he drives six days a week around the Southeast and has a family and children to support. A records check was done on Roger Jetton: clean as a whistle. Twenty year employee. We don't believe that anyone on the bus, driver or passengers, saw the Taylors that morning. Thanks for your theory.
It seems incredible that a 5 foot deep hole of sufficient size to
hold two bodies could be dug without the use of equipment which would
have left obvious tracks around the scene. Furthermore, it seems
unlikely that a lone individual or small group could dig such a hole
in a reasonable period of time so as to have the cover of darkness to
avoid being spotted. Certainly cemetary caretakers would take note of
a recently closed grave being left uncovered if the hole were dug in
advance as suggested in previous comments. Is the cemetary located
ina relatively secluded area, or would daytime activity be clearly
visible to passersby under normal circumstances?
Acid flashback on Shane's part would be too easy wouldn't it? Also,
as he is a musician and all, is there any history of an Ego Shovel
tie in with Shane?
Also, I find it curious that Det. Nelson would ask Dad about how
Shane is doing on the drug program, but not even mention it to Mom or
Shane himself. Is our old reliable detective getting a bit sloppy
with all these murders going on around him? I hope not!
Response: The cemetary is located three streets from the
center of downtown, on North 16th Street. It is not a secluded area,
but it is a sprawling cemetary, covering several acres, with paved
roads. We don't think Shane was on acid. He does want to join Ego
Shovel, though, we have learned, but we are not sure the extent of
the connection that he has to the cult. Shane's father was asked
because he was the one that originally worked out the details of the
"diversion" program with the sheriff's office when Shane was
busted.
I would like to know if the trashbins near the Burger King have
been searched for discarded weapons. If they stopped for the
argument, maybe it got out of hand there. Also, it would seem that
there may have been a second assailant since there were two methods
of murder used - why use a knife if you have a gun? Maybe check out
the Brothers collegues or girlfriends, he has a history of drug use,
not always the nicest people. Also, ask the parents what time the
brother returned home and what time he went to bed the night before.
There wasn't much time to dig a hole in the morning, maybe he did it
the night before. Finally, it would be nice to interview other family
or friends for their view of the family relationships - Was the Dad
very strict, maybe he was very disaapointed in their inability to
make the olympics.
Finally, is Harriet Nelson a relative of Det. Nelson?
Response: No one remembers them at Burger King at the time because it wasn't open. The garbage has been emptied since then. Shane's friends are being interviewed for their thoughts on the family and the murders. I don't think I'm related to Harriet Nelson.
The parents should be asked if they were up for there oldest son
to arrive back home, If they were up then they would know the true
time that the oldest son arrived home. Or ask the oldest Son if the
parents were home.....
Response: Thanks. All three of the surviving Taylors will have additional interviews.
The bodies were found in a cemetary right? Are any of the Taylors
buried there (grandparents, other family)?....Apparently, due to the
evidence, the two were alive at the cemetary....If Shane did kill his
siblings he must have had a reason, that his brother and sister
believed, to go there. Maybe to say a prayer before they left for
Colorado at one of their family members grave. This would have given
Shane the opportunity for the murders. But then again, a half of an
hour to bury the bodies, he must have had help!
Response: The Taylors do have a family plot but not at this cemetery where some aunts and uncles are buried but the family line doesn't go back that far in Oxford for there to be grandparents there. Thanks for your theory.
The brother Shane picked up his brother and sister, drove for
roughly 30 minutes and was home in bed in 15 minutes??? In the grave
went the girl then the boy?? Why kill the girl first (with a knife!)
Leaving the male to be killed with a gun? It seems like too much
work. I bet they knew each other. The killer and girl fought, the boy
didn't think much of it. Then the knife came out for the kill. The
girl dies in the hole. The two of them try to cover up, half way
through the killer places a bullet in the boy he falls in then the
killer cleans up.
Where did Shane get his money for the cd's if mom and dad wouldn't
respect his work?
Response: They respected his work but just couldn't finance it completely. Too much money was spent on the careers of the two younger Taylors. Thanks for your theory.
Web
Forum: This is the new forum set up for this site.
Please go there and pick a topic to talk about!
Response:Thanks for setting that area up--I hope other audience members will drop in.
Just to add another comment, each person's voice leaves an
identifiable voice pattern or signature, similar to a fingerprint.
The person who gave the anonymous tip can be found if you look hard
enough. Have his voice analyzed. You will find your tip-off man,
which will lead you to the murderer.
Response: The only way we can do that is is that person's voice has been recorded before, to have something to match it against. In this case the voice does is not familiar to anyone interviewed. There is no national "voice-bank" as there are with dental records and fingerprints. Maybe someday in the future.
I do not believe Shane killed his brother and sister. Even though
the cards are stacked against him, I feel he's innocent. One
supporting factor is this: The brother feels as if his parent's don't
support his endeavors financially or emotionally. As petty as it may
seam, I don't think he would have left their wallets full of money.
The money, in Shane's eyes would mean some form of reimbursement. He
obviously didn't kill his brother or sister.
We might want to look at how folks view ice skating. It may be
considered a feminine sport. Some people may resent the skating
duo.
Reponse: The only thing we have in that department right now is that some kids picked on the Taylors when they were in school, but it was never anything life-threatening. Just jealousy.
It just seems to me that the brother is too obvious to have done
it -- he could be the red herring in this case. Given the father's
background, I'm curious about his real reaction to their not making
the Olympics -- that is, just hos disappointed was he????
MCohen/NYC
Response: The father, Jim Taylor, and the mother, Sandy, were both devastated by the loss, but they put on a good face for their children. They both realized a long time ago that they could not live vicariously through their children, but they, were of course, very upset for them.
Well, I had my early Monday comments accidentally erased, and I
dont quite remember what I said. Basically, a few questions and
comments.
1. Shane said he got in an argument with Crystal, but when he told
the story, all I heard was an argument with Dale. Crystal didnt say
anything.
That seems weird. Typo?
2. Have we proven for a fact that the two bodies found are the two
skaters? As it stands now, they are simply two young kids wearing the
same clothes and carrying their belongings. I will keep a theory in
the back of my head that the brother helped them fake their deaths so
they could get away, until I find that the bodies are proven to be
the missing skaters. Hey, it could happen.
3. Advise that more people on bus are interviewed, just to be sure
that the driver isnt lying about whether he saw the skaters or
whether they were on the bus.
Response: 1) Shane has since admitted to arguing with both of them at once and seperately. 2) Yes, the two bodies are the two skaters. They have been verified via dental records, fingerprints, and parent identifications. 3) We have to go with the driver's version at this time. He seems to be an upstanding, honest, long-time employee, who wouldn't have any reason to lie about it. He has also professed a degree of admiration for the Taylors. We think he's on the up-and-up.
I know it is inappropriate to automatically assume that the
brother is the culprit in this dastardly deed; however, at this point
I can see no one else w/cause to injure/kill the victims. Siblings
can be vicious - my brother used to beat the crap out of me because
he knew my parents wouldn't stop him - so, I know first hand what
siblings can think of and do to each other.
I think the brother's friends should be questioned. I feel that drug
testing should be a top priority. Income & outgo of cash should
be tracked.
The parents need to be questioned a bit more in depth regarding what
the skating duo was given in comparison with the older brother. Both
parents were, as far as I can see, really into the two younger kids
& just ho-hum re: the oldest child.
Perhaps some of the relatives should be interviewed regarding their
impressions of the entire family. Sometimes an aunt, uncle, cousin,
grandparent, etc sees the truth - the same truth which may blind
those closer to the situation.
Good luck w/solving this - quickly!
Response: Shane's friends are being questioned right now. Shane is subject to periodic drug testing through the diversion program. Those records have been requested. We are also questioning the parents and Shane more. The Taylor extended family didn't really have any reason to believe that anything was wrong with the family-the outside world was kept away from the Taylors, Crystal and Dale especially, and the extended family, we believe, also thought that the Taylors were a perfect family.
If you would review the entire file, you would know that yes there
are stab wounds and gun shot, you would also know there were no
footprints around the grave site that were detected therefore, none
to match. I would check the payphone as well for prints or even
possible people working at Abner's who may have seen someone on the
payphone at that time but should have been done within a few minutes
of call also to be more accurate and effective. I would ask mom and
dad about owning a gun or knife that the brother had access to, check
that out, if not, then ask the brother. If he's guilty he's not going
to be real eager about offering information... The money given to the
kids, wouldn't they have had more on them than 120.00, I'd ask mom
and dad that too or was it all tied up in tickets, etc.
Response: The telephone by Abners is actually located on the west side, away from the entrance or any windows. It is on the side, an no one at Abner's reported seeing anyone that they would rememer. People are in and out of the restaurant all the time, because they serve "famous chicken tenders." The Taylors own a few weapons that we know of , we are checking that out. We are also talking more to Shane.
RE: "VOICE PRINT' MATCHES. I'M ASSUMING THE CALL TO THE
POLICE DEPT DISPATCHER WAS RECORDED. ALSO, WAS THE PHONE BOOTH THE
CALLER USED SCRUPULOUSLY DUSTED FOR FINGER
PRINTS ON EVERY PART OF THE BOOTH...WERE THE COIN(S) DEPOSITED IN THE
PAY-PHONE CHECKED FOR PRINTS OR TELL-TALE EVIDENCE OF ANY KIND? WERE
ANY HAIR STRANDS OR SIMILAR "POTENTIAL" EVIDENCE RETRIEVED FROM THE
PHONE BOOTH FROM WHICH A DNA SAMPLE COULD BE DERIVED FOR FUTURE USE
IN ZEROING IN ON A SUSPECT. THE CALLER JUST MAY HAVE BRUSHED HIS HAND
THROUGH HIS HAIR WHILE AT THE PAY PHONE...???
GOOD LUCK ! J W GILCHRIST , ALISO VIEJO, CA.
Response: The telephone that the call was placed to is an "open-air" type phone. It is not contained in a booth. The phone and phone number pad were both dusted for fingerprints and none were found. It is possible the caller was wearing gloves, which would not be uncommon for early February.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET A "VOICE PRINT" MATCH WITH THE VICTIMS'
BROTHER OR ANYONE WITH WHOM THE BROTHER IS ASSOCIATED? MY " HUNCH "
IS THAT THE BROTHER MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE MURDERS.....HIS
DRUG RELIANCE,
ROCK 'N ROLL LIFESTYLE AND APPARENT LOW SELF ESTEEM FROM HIS COLLEGE
EXPERIENCE INDICATES TO ME HE MAY BE THE MURDERER OR A CONSPIRATOR TO
THE MURDERS...JUST A "HUNCH".

Were the tires checked for matching soil samples?? Were the shoes
of each family member (mom, dad, brother) checked for matching soil
samples? Clothes checked for blood? Where there any cuts on the hands
of the surviving family members (Remember OJ?)
[email protected]
Response: No, no samples of anything were found on the tires, or the shoes, or the clothing. None of the family had cuts.
Where did the shot gun come from was there one in the home?
Response: Still checking on that. Will have something soon.
Was the car that shane drove them to the bus station in ever checked
for blood or anything?
Response: Yes. No traces of blood, hair or fibers. No physical evidence in the car.
Any ideas if Tonya Harding emigrated to Oxford !!
Response: We don't think so, but good theory.

When the police found the body did they have any brusies or stab
marks on the body?
Response: When police found the bodies, Crystal was stabbed to death, and Dale was killed with a single shot to the head.
The brother definately did it! He was so jealous,
