February 5, 1998 Missing Persons report filed by James and Sandra Taylor. Interviews conducted with family at station: Jim Taylor -- background information Telephone Interviews: Lila Grant, Magnolia Transit Ticket office -- provided name, address, phone number for Roger Jetton, driver has passenger manifest. Missing Persons Report on wire, posters and photos for distribution printed by Sheriff's department lab. February 6, 1998 Interviews conducted: Margaret Jenkins, friend of Crystal Taylor, at station -- last contact by phone Sunday, February 1, 8:00 p.m. Canvas of Eastgate area merchants and residents. Distribution of posters. No witnesses identified, no evidence recovered in search of location. Canvas of Burger King, dumpsters are emptied daily at 1:00 a.m. Business closed at 9:30 p.m. on 2/1/98. February 7, 1998 Interviews conducted: Sherwood, D. -- 102 Pleasant Drive, located diagonally across street from 103 to the northwest. Last saw missing persons on Friday evening, January 30th outside. Reports no knowledge of any arguments, conflict, or unusual activity at Taylor residence. States Taylor's are ìideal neighborsî. No unusual vehicles or activity in neighborhood. Telephone contacts: Reached all passengers on Magnolia Transit manifest. No one recalls seeing anyone in the Eastgate lot. Nothing suspicious. One other passenger from Oxford, arrived Big Star at 4:10 a.m. with spouse, no one in vicinity. February 9, 1998 Background check: Roger Jetton complete, 20 years service, no record, character interviews conducted, whereabouts check out. Excluded as suspect. Interviews: Checks with Browning-Ferris Industries employees on trash pickup 2/1, 2/2, 2/3 Burger King and Eastgate Shopping Center, no luggage and nothing unusual noticed in trash pickup/dump. Search: Landfill area on Landfill Road, nothing found. February 10, 1998 Search warrant: Obtained on vehicle owned and operated by Shane Taylor. Cause -- last known location of missing persons. Lab results returned no evidence of blood. Fibers collected retained. Interview: Telephone, Charles Hammel, drug court program, treatment coordinator for Shane Taylor. Progress satisfactory, random testing drug free rate at 87% Phase I period of treatment. Required 85% or above Phase I for program continuation. Currently in Phase II with 98% random drug free testing. Test results week of 1/26 100% drug free, week of 2/2 one positive test. Attendance requirements met 100%. Current treatment assessment indicates potential for successful completion of program resulting in dismissal of possession charges. Phase III ends April 6. February 12, 1998 Phone records: Taylor phone records for the period January 17th through February 9th. Records show calls to the Ice Chalet in Memphis, to coaches Kennedy and Morton and to the Gallagher residence. No other Memphis calls, last calls consistent with interviews. Local calls consistent with interviews, to Chambers and Jenkins residence, Magnolia Transit, Travel Ticket outlet. Long distance calls to family members are consistent with interviews and calls regarding training camp in Colorado. All calls appear both consistent and routine. No calling card calls made on Taylor accounts from 2/2 through 2/9. American Express Traveler's Check Trace: none of the traveler's checks have been cashed, alert in place. February 17, 1998 State Crime Lab Forensic K-9 Unit Search: Systematic controlled grid search of Eastgate area completed. See K-9 Unit report. February 18, 1998 Interview: Shane Taylor re-interviewed regarding argument. Argument details consistent with initial interview. New information/inconsistency: subject states he did not return to Pleasant Drive as stated by 3:45 a.m. on February 2. Subject states he instead went to Dickerson ranch where he smoked marijuana with Dave Woolworth until approximately 5:00 a.m. Subject states that he went directly from the Big Star to Dickerson's and directly from Dickerson's home to Pleasant Drive where he went to bed until about noon on the second. See file. February 19, 1998 1:46 p.m. anonymous call ìsome graves are big enough for two to skate inî. Call location identified as pay phone outside of Abner's restaurant at 430 S. Lamar Blvd. Dispatched patrol officer to location. No witnesses to call. Secured for processing. 1:50 p.m. criminologist arrived on scene, dusting produced no identifiable latent prints. February 20, 1998 4:30 a.m. notification of family. Interview: Dave Woolworth: verifies Shane Taylor's whereabouts from 4:00 to 5:00 a.m. on February 2, 1998.
