Witness Interview: Dana Pomeroy, Found Body | |
Wednesday, May 3, 2000 - 1:15 p.m. In response to the detectives' request for a second interview, Dana Pomeroy voluntarily came in to the Yoknapatawpha Sheriff's Office. Ms. Pomeroy was not in custody and chose not to have an attorney present during the interview. SM = Det. S. Murphy SM: Thank you for coming in, Ms. Pomeroy. Would you please state your name and address for the record? DP: Dana Pomeroy. I live in Taylor Mississippi. SM: Thank you. Now, you recall you told us you'd had a doctor's appointment the morning Mrs. Rose died? DP: Yes. SM: What time was that appointment? DP: 9:45. SM: And were you on time? DP: Yes, but the doctor was running late. I had to wait for a long time, almost an hour I think. SM: What did you do before you went to your appointment? DP: Nothing. I mean, I was at home getting ready. I don't remember going anywhere else before I went to the doctor. SM: What time did you leave the doctor's office? DP: Sometime before noon, I think. I don't remember exactly. SM: What did you do after you left? DP: I went to lunch. At Cedars, I think. TA: You didn't get to Cupid's Couples until 2:30. That's a pretty long lunch. DP: Well... I had a few errands to run and since Trudi had given me the whole morning off, I didn't think it would hurt to go ahead and do them before I went to work. That way I'd be able to stay as late as I needed to. TA: What kind of errands? DP: Just boring stuff. I had to go to the dry cleaners and the bank and a couple other places. TA: What other places? DP: I don't remember now. TA: Was one of them Good Graces? DP: What? TA: You work for them too, don't you? DP: Who told you that? TA: Natasha Van Moore. DP: She... yes, I do still work for her sometimes. TA: Did you stop by there on the day Trudi died, before you went to Cupid's Couples? DP: I don't remember. TA: What kind of work do you do for Good Graces? DP: Nothing special. I just help Natasha with the administrative stuff. TA: Natasha has plenty of money since her divorce. Why doesn't she hire someone who can be there full time to do those things? DP: I don't know. You'd have to ask her. SM: Ms. Pomeroy, do you know Corinna Morgan? DP: Sure. We worked together at Cupid's Couples until she got fired for trying to steal those client files. SM: Did she? DP: Did she what? SM: Did she try to steal those files? DP: It certainly looked that way. SM: Yes, it did. Look that way. But did she actually try to steal them? DP: I guess so. What do you mean? How would I know? SM: You told Kelly Clinton that you saw Ms. Morgan put those files in her briefcase, didn't you? DP: How did you find out about that? SM: Ms. Clinton told us. Was that true? Did you really see Ms. Morgan do that? DP: That's what I said. SM: We know what you said. I'm asking you whether or not it was true. DP: Why would you think it wasn't true? SM: Ms. Pomeroy, you're leading us around in circles and it's becoming tiresome. Did you see her put the files in her briefcase or not? DP: Obviously. Why else would I have said that? TA: You did get promoted to Corinna's job after she was fired, didn't you? DP: Yeah. TA: Some people might consider that a reason for you to lie about the files. DP: Are you calling me a liar? SM: What kind of relationship did you have with Ms. Morgan? DP: We worked together. SM: I realize that. Did the two of you get along? Were you friends? DP: We got along fine. We weren't best buddies or anything, but we got along fine. TA: Corinna thinks you planted the files in her briefcase to get her fired. DP: Really. Well, I'm not surprised. She always tried to blame me when she screwed up. Like it's my fault she's incompetent. TA: She was incompetent? No one else has mentioned that. DP: Of course not. People don't like to kick a person when she's down. But I think you should always tell the truth, even if it's not nice. TA: And that's what you're doing now? Telling the truth? DP: What is your point? Y'all are ganging up on me here and I don't know why. You keep acting like I'm lying about these things. Why? TA: Maybe I'm not convinced you're telling us the entire truth. DP: Well maybe I don't really appreciate that. I don't think I want to talk to y'all anymore. I'm getting the feeling I should have a lawyer here. TA: That's your choice. We still have several questions to ask you. DP: Well, that's your problem, I guess. I'm going to find a lawyer and you can ask me those questions after that. SM: That's fine, Ms. Pomeroy. We haven't intended to offend you, but we are interested in the truth. We'll contact you tomorrow to see if you've retained an attorney yet. And we'll continue to contact you every day until you get one. We want to schedule another interview with you, with your attorney present if you prefer, before this time next week. Do you understand? DP: I'm not stupid. Of course I understand. SM: Fine. Thank you for coming in. We'll be in touch with you. And Ms. Pomeroy, under no circumstances should you leave town before our next interview. Got it? DP: Yeah, I got it. Boy, I don't know what I did to deserve all this. TA: You have a good day now, Ms. Pomeroy.
