- Charles Lamar's death is a direct result of the
extensive thermal injuries sustained in the auto accident
and subsequent fire on November 8, 1997. The combination
of smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation and extensive
third degree burns to over 90% of his body were fatal
injuries. In addition, Charles Lamar suffered critical
head and neck injuries as well as an anterolateral wedge
compression fracture, commonly known as a "seat belt
injury", to his spine. Numerous other abrasions,
lacerations and blunt force trauma injuries were noted on
examination.
-
- The injuries are consistent with being sustained at
the time of the auto accident and no evidence of trauma
or injury inconsistent with the accident was found. The
postmortem examination showed no evidence of injection or
involuntary administration of ethanol or diazepam.
-
- Charles Lamar was officially pronounced dead at the
scene by paramedics. The death certificate was signed by
Dr. Cooper Dyson at Baptist Memorial Hospital where the
body of Charles Lamar arrived DOA at 10:10 pm.
