YOKNAPATAWPHA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

INVESTIGATION REPORT

Investigating Officer: Detective Terrence Nelson
CAPS/Homicide Case No.: 129152-36A-1998

Date: March 4, 1998
Location: .54 miles north of intersection Hurricane Creek Road and Highway 7 at Hurricane Creek bridge
Incident: Evidence search

DESCRIPTION:

At 8:46 a.m. dispatch received a call from Tucker Hewitt Baines [interview] of 436 Sisk Avenue, Oxford regarding recovery of a skate bag. Patrol officers dispatched to Mr. Baines' home determined that the bag matched the description of one of the missing items of luggage from this case.

FINDINGS:

A forensic team was requested and were on the scene when I arrived at 10:08 a.m. Recovered from the scene were two large pullman type suitcases, a canvas duffle bag, a leather tote bag, a small case, garment bag and three skate bags. The items are consistent with and appear to be the items of luggage belonging to the victims. Soil, water and various samples were taken by forensics at the scene. The items appear to have been thrown from the bridge off of highway seven to the creek bed, some taken downstream approximately 300 yards. The luggage appeared to have been there for some time and undisturbed.

Mrs. Sandra Taylor of 103 Pleasant Drive, Oxford, victim's mother was present when the bags were opened. She has positively identified both the luggage and the contents as those belonging to Dale and Crystal Taylor. The contents appeared to have been as they were packed. No evidence of rifling through or tampering was evident.

An inventory of contents is included in this report.

As far as Mrs. Taylor could determine, there are two items which remain missing. One dark blue all weather jacket belonging to Dale Taylor and one amulet belonging to Dale Taylor described as follows:

18 kt. gold chain and pendant depicting an Egyptian khartoush with hieroglyphics on both faces, one face is an eye of Horus on the other face are hieroglyphics spelling the name Dale. The pendant is an elongated oval measuring approximately 1 1/2 inches in length.

Mrs. Taylor states that this is an item Dale Taylor was known to have with him at all times, particularly when skating as a good luck talisman. She will provide an illustration of the markings.
