Telephone Interview with Roger Jetton, Magnolia Transit Bus Driver

This interview was conducted via telephone with Roger Jetton, who was on a break at the Magnolia Transit Bus terminal in Little Rock, Arkansas, while driving a bus from Memphis to Dallas.

Q= Detective Terrence Nelson
A=Roger Jetton, Magnolia Transit Driver

Q=Hello, Mr. Jetton?

A=This is Mr. Jetton.

Q=Mr. Jetton, this is Detective Terrence Nelson, of the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department in Oxford, Mississippi. You were the driver of the airport bus from Oxford to Mempis on Monday morning, is that correct?

A=Yes sir, I drive that bus every Monday morning.

Q=Where do you live, Mr. Jetton?

A= I live in Memphis.

Q=Have you heard of Dale and Crystal Taylor, the ice dancing brother and sister from Oxford?

A=I have -- in fact, they used to take the airport bus from time to time --- I dropped them off at the mall, you know, that's where they practice. And my wife loves them. She just watched them in those championships in November. They should have made the team.

Q: When was the last time they took the bus?

A: It wasn't that often. Usually they drove or their dad took them. I guess the last time was back in September, October. Not recently.

Q=Mr. Jetton, Crystal and Dale Taylor were supposed to be on the bus you drove to the Memphis airport on Feb. 2. Their brother says that he dropped them off at the drop-off point at the Eastgate Shopping Center on University Avenue, but they never got on the bus. Do you remember what time you arrived at the drop-off point?

A=I want to say I got there right before 4 o' clock in the morning, which is about right. I leave Memphis each Monday morning around two-thirty sharp, and it's a straight shot, no stops, until I get to Oxford. Mondays are the only days I go straight to Oxford first -- usually I do a pickup at the airport, then to Oxford, and then back. But since they added this early service a couple of years ago I've been doing it.

Q=Did you see either of the Taylors when you pulled into the shopping center parking lot?

A=No. I didn't see them. And I think I would have recognized them, after seeing them before, and seeing them on TV just a while ago.

Q=Were you aware that the Taylors were supposed to be on the bus?

A=I saw their names on my passenger manifest, yes. I was excited to see them again.

Q=Did you have any baggage checked in from the Taylors?

A=No baggage. I guess they were bringing their bags, like most people. They never showed up, right?

Q=They vanished from the drop-off point, that's right. Thank you Mr. Jetton. We'll call if we need anything else.

A=You're welcome.
