YOKNAPATAWPHA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT Hatchback Sighting Detectives have re-examined police reports from the days immediately following the Taylor murders in search of further evidence based on Magnolia Transit passenger Kristi Dawe's description of a black hatchback seen near the Eastgate Shopping Center. No sightings of a black hatchback were recorded the morning of February 2nd. However, the following entry was found in the sheriff department's log for the 8 p.m. - 4 a.m. shift beginning on that date. No other reports of a black hatchback were recorded at the Oxford Police Department or with the sheriff. 23:20 Mr. Alan Philbert, 2113 Old Taylor Road, said a dark color Honda hatchback was driving erratically with rear hatchback open, with a "large, bulky load covered with blankets" spilling out of the back of the vehicle, at 2300 hours. Caller said blankets were trailing out of hatch back and therefore caller did not obtain vehicle license number. Caller was behind the hatchback in his own vehicle traveling N on Old Taylor Road, then turned onto Lamar toward Murff's restaurant where he met friends at approximately 23:05. Disposition: Patrol units alerted to vehicle. Deputies Creager and Thompson responded, patrolled Old Taylor Road and environs. No further sightings. |
