Monday, September 18, 2006 - 2:35 p.m.

The witness was identified as the victim's ex-girlfriend. She was interviewed at her home by members of the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department. The interview was recorded on a portable audio tape recorder with the witness's knowledge and consent.

TA = Detective T. Armstrong

SM = Detective S. Murphy

YB = Yvonne Bremer

SM: Thank you for seeing us again.

YB: Certainly.

SM: Well, we talked to your husband and we would like to follow up on a few things.

YB: Oh, okay. I wish that you hadn't done that...

SM: I assure you that it was necessary.

YB: Well, okay.

SM: Can you tell us about your relationship with Hugh?

YB: Well, we've just always been together. I'll be the first to admit that we have our problems, but we always seem to work them out.

TA: Yes, that's almost exactly what you told us the first time we spoke to you. How about some more detail?

YB: Like what?

SM: When did you first start dating?

YB: We were in high school. I think it was 1995.

TA: What was your first date?

YB: I don't believe that I remember.

SM: Hugh says that he asked you out for pizza.

YB: Oh yes, that's it.

SM: I don't mean to be stereotypical, but isn't that unusual that the guy remembers more specifics than the woman?

YB: Oh, well, Hugh, he's more sentimental than you would think.

TA: So you dated throughout high school. Date anyone else?

YB: No, never.

SM: You didn't date anyone else until you got to college and you and Hugh eventually separated for a brief time?

YB: That's right.

TA: And did you date anyone during that separation?

YB: Well, you know about Jamie. And I went out with a Phi Delt once, but that was our only date.

SM: How did Hugh take it when you were going out with Jamie?

YB: He didn't like it at all. Hugh has always had a bit of a temper, not a bad one, I mean. But he can get mad sometimes.

SM: So is it safe to describe Hugh as the jealous type?

YB: I guess. He would sit in the parking lot and see what time I got home and watch to see if Jamie came up to my room or anything. But all kids do that. It's just part of being young.

TA: Has he ever threatened you?

YB: No, of course not.

TA: Have you ever feared for your life?

YB: No! Hugh loves me!

SM: Did he ever threaten any men?

YB: No, he talks a lot. But there's nothing to it. It's all just hot air.

TA: No, he never threatened any men? Or, he threatened them and you're saying it was just hot air?

YB: Well, he was pretty upset with me dating Jamie. And he used to say that he would show him and that he would teach him to mess around with me. But it was only when he was upset or drunk. I'm sure he didn't mean it.

SM: Has Hugh ever tried to control you in any way?

YB: Uh, no.

TA: Screened your phone calls? Read your mail? Things like that.

YB: Well, he's concerned about me. He only wants what's best. You make it sound so evil.

SM: Just answer the question, please.

YB: He has listened to the messages on my answering machine. And he has asked who the mail was from. But that's just because he's interested in my life and friends, not because he's crazy or anything.

SM: So you broke up with Jamie... how did that go?

YB: I just talked to him on the phone one night and told him that I didn't want to go out anymore. That was it.

SM: How soon after breaking up with Jamie did you get back together with Hugh?

YB: Pretty quickly. I guess within the next week or two I was back with Hugh.

SM: How did he respond?

YB: He was still hurt and angry. But he was very glad for us to be back together.

TA: What drove you back to Hugh?

YB: There just wasn't any question. I always knew I would end up with Hugh.

SM: Did you ever talk about Jamie?

YB: No, he always got so upset. He just didn't want to discuss it.

SM: Did you continue to have feelings for Jamie after you quit seeing him?

YB: We weren't that serious. It's not really like we were in love or anything.

TA: Your husband says you broke down and cried when you heard that Jamie's body was found.

YB: Well, yes. I mean, it's not every day that you find out someone has been murdered.

SM: But in our first interview, you consciously said that you weren't all that upset. You even apologized and said that you didn't mean to sound uncaring but that it wasn't a big deal.

YB: I guess I just wasn't thinking it all the way through.

SM: Once again, when was the last time you saw Jamie?

YB: Towards the end of March.

SM: Did he try to contact you after that.

YB: He sent some e-mails.

TA: Did Hugh know about the e-mails?

YB: I mentioned them to him. I didn't want him to be surprised.

SM: How would he know? Did Hugh read your e-mail?

YB: Well, no. But, still. I wanted him to know.

TA: Did he get mad?

YB: Yes, but he always got mad whenever Jamie was mentioned. It was no big deal.

SM: What do you remember about the Red-Blue game that year? Or the Double Decker Festival?

YB: Hugh and I went. We had a good time. We walked around the Square and saw some bands. Tina was hanging around as well.

SM: Did you interact with Jamie at all?

YB: No.

SM: We talked about this last time, but do you know of anyone who might want to hurt Jamie?

YB: No.

TA: Your husband seemed pretty angry at him.

YB: But he wouldn't hurt him!

SM: He got pretty mad when we were talking to him. That's quite a temper he has.

YB: Yes, but he wouldn't hurt anyone. That's just crazy!

SM: Okay, we'll stop the questions now. We may call on you again.

Interview ends 3:31 p.m.
