Witness Interview: Lee Perez

 

Q: Please state your full name and date of birth for the record.
A: Lee Maria Perez, born June 9th, 1970.

Q: Thank you. Do you have any information as to Ms. Knight's whereabouts?
A: No. I never know where she is. She comes and goes a lot. Sometimes in the middle of the night she'll just go out.

Q: Do you think something has happened to her?
A: I don't know. Like I said, I never really kept track of her. She's never been away for this long.

 

Q: When did you last see her?
A: Three days ago. We were both up early and then she went to class. She has an 8:30 class, I think.

Q: Did you notice anything unusual?
A: No.

Q: Try to tell me everything you can remember.
A: When I came down she was already done with breakfast. I think she'd had pancakes. She asked if I wanted anything from the store because she was going later. I said I didn't. We talked about maybe seeing a movie over the weekend. She was sort of hurrying toward the end. She said she had to go the library before class.

 

Q: What was she wearing?
A: Jeans. I think they were regular blue jeans. A sweater and a jacket, the sweater was purple. I don't remember.

Q: What about the stalking?
A: She didn't tell me much about it. I never saw anything until the other night, when Mr McPhail came over. I think she knew about it. Sometimes the phone would ring, and she'd pick it up and the hang up real fast and then leave it off the hook. I used to get pissed off because I was always missing calls.

Q: So it happened a lot?
A: I didn't really notice at the time. I guess so.

Q: Did you ever ask her about it?
A: She always said it was some geek from class.

Q: Did she say which class?
A: No.

Q: So you never noticed anyone following you or taking pictures?
A: No.

Q: What classes was she taking?
A: As far as I know, a lot of science. I don't really know. Biology and some kind of math course. I think she had chemistry too.

Q: How long have you been living with Ms. Knight?
A: Since January, the beginning of the semester.

Q: How did you meet her?
A: She answered a notice I put up in the student union looking for a roommate. She was the first person to call and she seemed OK.

Q: How much did you know about her background?
A: I knew all about it. I'd read all the news. That didn't really bother me.

Q: Did you know Valerie Vilson?
A: No.

Q: Was it still affecting her?
A: I guess so. She's pretty quiet about all that. She doesn't want to talk. She does a lot of thinking.

Q: Did you get along?
A: Oh yeah. No problem. I mean, we aren't best friends or anything. We're pretty different personalities. But we get along fine.

Q: You're a student here?
A: Yes. I'm in the theatre directing program. I'm doing Master Builder. If I send you a picture will you put it on the web?
