Armstrong, It would appear to me that there must be more that one person involved in the burial. Doing some quick calculations, 1 sheet of 3/4" plywood weighs about 67# and with the box being (from pix) 6x3x4, double lined w/ side vent and top that it would weigh about 400 lb. Couple that with a body, about 515 lbs. Quite a bit of weight for a small framed, under 5'8" to handle alone. Just a consideration from a little guy, under 5'8"" & 132 lbs. Lloyd516

Response: We duplicated the box using 2 sheets of plywood and hardware making the box weigh about 150 Lbs. With the victims weight added, that comes to about 260 lbs. Still very difficult for a single person. Note, there were indications the box was dropped

I can't figure out exactly who put Purity in the box, but is it possible that the wounds on her body were self inflicted. The coroner's report said the killer was left handed because the wounds were on the right side of her body, just as they would be if she had made them with her right hand and arm which was broken from the blows. Also, so many of the wounds were near her abdomen, perhaps indicative of her remorse at having had an abortion. Just some thoughts. Personally, I think it was a ransom attempt, devised by Purity, with the help of ?, and it went awry. She then proceded to go nuts inside the box.

I have a few questions... One I get the feeling that the baby Purity was pregnant with was her fathers. I would explain how he and her mom found out about the abortion. Also, some of the threating phone calls to Valeri originated in that area. Who ever was involved with that probably has something to do with this... The gentleman who claims to walk his dog in the same area every day yet never found her has got to be involved. His dog would have heard something if Dylan did. Dogs have better hearing than Humans.

Response: All parties agree Purity was pregnant with Jake Rohleen's child. As for the dog: that was their first time in that particular area-because the dog broke free.

I think Aaron Azerian did it. alibis are weak for him being able to do it. he has motive with the money. fits the description. runs out side bar easy access to certain materiels. was able to come during the day stayed out at night. he is the man you need to catch.

It bothers me that Purity's parents aren't taken more into this. I understand that her parents speak strongly out againt killing and torture..especially of their own daughter, but look what they put Valerie through. I think this needs to be reviewed more.

i think that aaron azeriah is involved with purity in a scheme to get the 10k from her parents that he loaned to her, that she never repaid. why would her parents give her 10k for tuition after she blew them off?

this scheme went wrong somewhere, and the letter to "dave" is a red herring to implicate him.

i bielive that the ex-boyfriend killed her. he had family in the area, so he had an alabi. he also was gone and had the ability to send the letter from another town because he attended a school far from home and could send the letter on the way to or from the school. the motive would be that he was happy with the relationship and they broke up, therefore he went or a mad craze and was obscessed with her and was determind to teach her a lesson.

This seems to me as a cult related sacrifice. Purity never told the boy to get the police or seem to be upset. I think she was involved in this cult and they convinced her that she needed to be some sort of sacrifice. The police need to check out this cult the professor mentioned that was trying to recuit her. Someone knows something and will sooner or later trip up.

Has Ed Pierce and Detective Anderson been included in the lineups that Dylan Tull looked at? If these 2 men are the leading suspects, wouldn't it make sense to have a line up with them in it for the kid to view? Dylan did supposedly see the murderer, so he would be able to rule out either or both men in a lineup.

I don't think this was the work of one person alone, it involves at least 2 or more people and I think its a case of Purity in cahoots with some other people to get her inheritance through a ransom.

I think this website is great and I have been an avid fan for about 1 1/2 years now. Unfortunantly upon sending my comments in the past, I have never gotten a response. My question for the third time is in reguards to Lisa Wood. She was built up in the Vilson case to being a possible suspect and then dissapeared with mental problems, and with no importance to the case except as a liar. Upon looking at her pictures and the picture of the people in Purity's safety deposit box, I noticed a strong resemblance with Wood and Girl in the middle of the picture. Wood appeared to be desperate to be part of the Vilson homicide, as a sort of status symbol. Is it possible she wove her way into Purity's life for the same reason, only now with a more active role in the death of the victim. Sort of a tragedy groupie. There is a very strong resemblence. We contacted Wood to make ceratin that it was not her. She denies it. The woman who had us blur her face identified the middle person as, Estafani. Her name and phone number appear on the ATM slip found in Knight's safety deposit box.

i have a question detective, ben archer said that maybe the scratches in the trees and maybe they were from antlers of a deer, then he said that there were no deer in that part of the woods. Regarding the post directly below: The killer (not the boy) supposedly put the note in the library book. Popular thought is that the killer saw PK give the note to Dylan, or that the killer just saw Dylan with the note, and intercepted it.

Unless I missed it, if the note was given to a 9 year old child, how did it get into a book, let alone a college book?

What type of Coroner/Medical Examiner system do you have? Post-mortem insect activity resembles cigarette burns. These injuries are too "neat" to have been inflicted in the box. Linear scratch-type abrasions located anteriorly do not resemble defense wounds or of the inflicted type.

My theory:
Purity needed money and redemption. She was in cahoots with the "night owl", her "killer", at least initially. She and the "night owl" were trying to get the ransom from her parents (her $100,000 share of inheritance) through this "sick joke". Purity agreed to be buried alive. She never thought it would go so far; she never realized the fanaticism of the "night owl".

The "night owl" works at Mississippi Regional Center. He is probably a night watchman, this explains his skin color. He is also a member of Ego Shovel. He knows Rohleen's girlfiriend, Caitlin Davies (an Ego Shovel member), who also believes that Purity should "find salvation" for her sin, through punishment, as Jake has told her the whole story. Jake does not know of Caitlin's involvement in Ego Shovel.

The "night owl" was NOT in the line-up, which explains why Dylan did not ID anyone in the line-up. Check out other Oxford, MS members of Ego Shovel and the night crew at Miss. Regional Ctr. There should be a match- the "night owl" and Purity's "killer".

Purity's death was not a true homicide. It was a ransom plan that went awry due to the extreme fanaticism of the "night owl". For him it was an exciting game that got out-of-hand, as well.

Response: Valerie Vilson was given up because the pregnancy was out of wedlock. Azeriah runs the 8 Ball Lounge here in Oxford. Kissoyan, from the Vilson case, is back in his native Armenia. Rohleen has been attending the University of Arkansas.

1) how could she have written the note and then given it back to Dylan? there were bars on the side of her head and that was the only access, which was 4 feet down. too far for a child to reach. so I agree, perhaps Dylan wrote it.

2) in the pictures Dylan drew (finally seen them), one of them has a mouth coming out of the ground with sharp fangs. what is this representing? there is also a skeleton holding something in the edges of the picture...could he have known the killer was there?

as the notes sent. Look for the ducktape used to seal the ransom

I definately think both sisters murders are related.
I believe that the motive has to do with the computor disk
that was stored in val's hard-drive, by greg..then tampered
with illegally, and then "TED" fixed the computor with
passwords..etc. I believe the information was sent to
purity's. Everyone seems to be connected in someway..
The "GOTH" is the main link here..could this person possibly

If I'm interpreting the schedule of 1996 Seville bullfights correctly, Purity's list is way off. Only 8/29 is a correct bullfight date; no bullfighting took place on the other dates.

When PK was in Spain, she used an ATM on 30/9--September 30th. But the reverse lists dates for bullfights that took place in August. Why would she make such a list? Besides, she hated bullfights. Any possibility there's another meaning to this list? And what about the phone number on the ATM slip?

Where was the geographical map obtained,: I mean it's place of origin...not where it was received. Also, has anyone interviewd RICHARD HOWORTH, the administrator of Frank's will? He stands to gain a lot, should Purity meet an early demise. which she did. Also, consider the fact that Val had contact with Purity prior too both of their deaths...could the PI have known of this contact? Hello! I actually have a comment and a question. First off did anyone even think of Perez as a possible suspect. I mean come on! It's too perfect. Could it have been jealousy? From the look of the letters from the abductor, it seems that they had ill feelings towards the victim. Saying that she was dirty, and un pure??!! Did you look into the possibility that maybe something happened between Purity and Perez's boyfriend? Can we say Fatal Attraction?! Just a hunch, I guess! And, anyway, what was Perez's alibi for the night of the disappearance? Thanks!

i believe it was det. anderson that committed the crimes....both of the murders.....its the work of a serial killer and he has been in the wrong place at the wrong time one too many times...i believe the note Dylan had was written to Anderson pleading that he would spare her life and she would not tell on him...Dylan probably told anderson about Purity when he found her...and thats all he could have done-inform a police officer...what else does a child know to do? Anderson probably assured him he would take care of it. Dylan did not have a good realtonship with his mother to tell her...

I think you should check all past boyfriends, and get the name of the clases she has and question everyone. And see about her sisters killer. He might have some conection.

DEAR DETECTIVE:
According with the ALIBI VERIFICATION we have 2 major suspetcs,Ed Pierce and Detective David Anderson.
I was lookin' in the Relevant Personal Data and I find somethings very interesting about Ed Pierce:
He's 5' 8" and Kevin Stark said that the man he saw talkin' with Dylan Tull (June 2,1997) was 5' 8".
He works in a computer lab,so he could be able to write a note using computer typeface COURIER (I'm refering to the map with a note addressed to Detective Armstrong arrived on 5 May 1997).
Last thing I notice is that Ed Pierce smokes.That could explain the "cigarette size 3rd degree burns" found on the body of Purity.
According to these 3 thing I say that Ed Pierce may be our man.I suggest to keep an eye on him for several days (he could do something important) or,anyway,push on him.

Why hasn't the Tull boy been asked if Purity revealed the identity of her abductor? Or, why hasn't he been asked if he could identify the man that he gave Purity's note to? Will he be shown a picture of Detective Anderson or Ed Pierce?

that not to dave anderson looked like a child's handwriting to me. someone else noted that it seemed impossible that she could have written it give the position of her hands. could she have dictated the note and have dylan write it? and what is the matter with this kid anyway?? why didn't he tell someone (like the police) that there is a person buried in the ground....HE KNOWS SOMETHING!!!

I have a few questions. 1- Was purity nude under the plastic
and blanket when she was found? If so,(I cant tell in the photo) what happened to the green sweater and waht looks like a white tee shirt she was wearing in the second photo the abductor sent to the police? 2- do any of the suspects have wood working skills, the tools to accomplish building a coffin, or what might be diagrams for one. 3- The individual spotted at cooter's sounds to be wearing some clown or theatrical make up and acostume. Has any one gained warrent's to search all possible suspect's living quarter's for any of the above mentioned item's? Also check all area woodworking club's, votech schools, high schools, or places that rent the necessary items used to build a coffin.

Question: If Anderson and Pierce are the prime suspects, does that mean that everyone else is "Off the hook'? According to your Alibi Verification list, there are still some other people that are missing alibis for critical times as well as your "prime suspects".

How are you persuing the two prime suspects?

Did you have a line-up with Anderson and Pierce for Dylan and Teri (Miss J)?

I think you should take a closer look at the note Purity wrote to Dave Anderson.You classified it as a plea for assistance, but look at the way it is worded. The line that says "Please come let me out" it seems that unless he already knew she was in there, how would he know what to do? To me, it seems she is trying to plea with him for her life.

There is no doubt in my mind that Purty Knight new her killer, and she was into something strange. Dylan Tull, eventhough a child by age should of come forward when he first discovered Purty buried in the woods. Why didn't he? Every person regardless of age who's whitness something that tramatic would talk about it with someone, friends, family or authorities. People just have a natural instink,(sorry about spelling), to tell. Ask this question, Why would someone give food, paper and pencil to someone buried in the ground. It doesn't make sense. Wouldn't you try to save that person? Sure you would, I would. Dylan could of been part of her abuction or a whitness then caught by the person then threatened if he told any body. It's a possibility. Dylan could be you key to solve this mystery. He knows something, or someone is keeping him from telling. Tail him, tap his phone, interview his friends. Check this kid out. He knows something. I feel it! Will be checking later on web to see updates, and I hope this information will help you.

...additional info for my profile...the suspect is a loner. He lives with a close relative, probably his mother, who he fantisizes about killing. He has tried to have normal relationships with woman but has failed. This build up of sexual inadequency has drove him into a killing mode. This is not his last time, and may not even be his first time. The discription of the suspect being thin makes me believe that this is a normally preceived weak individual who finds his strength in over powering weaker people--woman.

Who closed the victim's mouth and eyes? She appears to be at peace. Or, was she killed somewhere else and positioned that way in the ground? What was the relationship like between the victim and her sister. Did they ever compete for attention/love of the same man? The man who did this was probably 25-35 in age, a white male, low in education (maybe a high school grad)..has a deep rooted psychological disorder involving control and violence. Was abused by his mother and has or had been involved in drug abuse. In addition, this suspect problably has a long history of violence from his pre-adolencent years and has probably spent some time in correctional intstitutions. He is also local to the area and may have even seen or been in contact with the victim prior to the incident.
How's that? I'd like to know how close my profile was.

I know a short story by Poe that has to do with being buried alive: "Berenice". It probably doesn't have anything to do with this case.
Oh yeah, in my book on EAPoe, "Berenice" is on pgs. 54-56. Just thought everyone would like to know.

A few things Detective, First; Have you attempted to run a background check on the book the note was found in at the library. You need to go back to the library and and find out if they have a record of everyone who has checked out the book in the past year or so.. I suggest going as far back as the Valerie Vilson case on the book check!

Second; I had a close look at the interviews of Lee Perez and her boyfriend Ed, and if my intuition serves me correctly, these two are not telling you something -Lee seems very fidgity and distracted during the interview while alternating between past-tense and present references to Purity in her initial interview, and Ed's testimony seems to contradict the status of Lee and Purity's relationship. Ed stated that Lee would have nothing to do with Purity, yet Lee suggests in her initial interview that she discussed doing something together with Purity on the weekend (going to the movies).

Third; I'm curious about JOEL SHENTON from the Valerie Vilson case.. Do you happen to have any Audio materials of his interview on file? And have you thought about doing a followup on him?? You will note that he (Like Lee Perez) seems to have an interest in the Dramatic Arts. Maybe it's a dead lead, but you never know... It might also be beneficial to conduct a series of interviews with some of Perez's Drama classmates.

Is there a significance between the story that Purity told to the Tull boy wherein she used many referances to the color orange and perhaps the hair color of Greg Giblini? Futhermore, the image of a cat shows up three times in the boys drawings, a bit more that normal me thinks.

I'm trying to figure out how someone who is buried in a box, all wrapped up in some kind of plastic cover with dirt on top can write a note? The picture of Purity being buried reveals only her head. Her hands where in no way free, so how can she write a note? Was it in fact her handwriting? I'm sorry but I just don't get this part. And why is it that Dylan can not identify the man he supposingly gave the note to?
Also, in the interview with Chris Thurman it was mentioned that Dylan was more interested in going to the library instead of playing tag. Is there any connection? Has the camp-staff been checked out? Thurman said that most of the time they hire college students. Just a thought!

PS: Great site, hope there will be more once this is solved.

Ok I'm new to this sight but there is one thing that is really bothering the hell outta me. I am a criminology student so I might be a wee bit bias here. As I recall, The pyschological profile of the killer stated that the suspect probably spent most of his free time on the internet and most of his friends are on line folks. Ok, so we all know that from the coroners report and from the guy who saw Dylan giving the suspect a note that the suspect is left handed. Also the guy said the suspect was very pale and 5 foot 8. HELLO!!!!! Why don't you'ze check who has an Internet account in the region, narrow it down to lefties, pale, 5 foot 8....bang.....case over!

Detective, Could Purity have had an internet friend. You know someone she would talk to or share Poems with. Just a thought..

Detctive , has there been any connection between the victim and someone close. Most urders are commited by someone the victim knows? One thing to remember is that everyone is a suspect until proven that they are not.

The suspect listed in the police report for the stalking is 5 ft 8 in tall. Owens confessed, but according to his New York police report, he is 6 ft 5 in. This doesn't fit.

The suspect for the stalking is 5'8", small of build and wearing dark clothing. So is the unknown person who was seen talking to Dylan. This person was also described as 'pale,' and clean shaven. And according to the witness, and the coroner's report, he is left handed.

Ed Pierce seems to fit this description fairly closely. From his Campus ID, it is noticed that he is rather emaciated, and is wearing dark clothing (which can be a preference, which is common to those with certain similar musical tastes). His height is not listed, so I can make no comparison in that respect. He does have a beard in the photo. I was wondering if in the area of June 2nd he was in fact clean shaven. And also, is he right or left handed?

Other facts interesting in his bio are that he is familiar with English classes. So apparently is the killer, who sent the police poems, and seemed to enjoy Poe. Pierce also works in the computer lab, and most likely has ample access to the type of laser printer suspected of making the notes sent to police. Also notable, he was interested in the theater, as was Val.

As for motive, I'm not sure. But I hope these observations help in some way.
