Proud Larry's Attacker In Custody
Suspected in series of five rapes.
 
 
The Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department announced a suspect has been identified in the Sept 18 rape of a university student.
 
Anthony Phelps, 21, of 2310 14th Street, was detained for questioning this morning at approximately 1:15 AM, by officers from the Sheriff's department. Phelps was located outside the bar Proud Larry's
 
Phelps is being questioned about an incident on September 18 and also about series of rapes occurring since August 10. Several of the victims in these attacks had been at Proud Larry's before their attacks.
 
On September 18, a freshman student from Brookhaven, Mississippi was assaulted in her room. This unidentified student was the fith victim in the past month, prompting the university to cancel a planned 24 hour visitation policy.
 
According to reports, the attacker entered the victim's unlocked dormitory room and overpowered her. The attacker was described as early 20s, white, six feet tall, wearing an orange football jacket.
 
A $1,000 reward has been offered by Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the Proud Larry's rapist, but it was unknown at press time if a citizens tip lead to the apprehension of Phelps.
 
Sheriffs spokesman, Elizabeth Jones, Information Officer, said that no other suspects have been identified at this time.
