Biography: Dorian Butler, a.k.a. Helen Troy

Helen Troy is the "stage name" of Dorian Butler, born April 7, 1977. Her parents were Ray and Ellen Butler of Mobile, Alabama. Dorian's father left the family in 1980, abandoning her mother with three young girls. Dorian was the youngest. The fractured family lived outside of Mobile in veritable poverty throughout the girls' years growing up.

At the age of 18, Butler set out for Hollywood but only made it as far as Las Vegas. She returned to Mobile several months later, defeated following a disastrous affair with a hot-shot celebrity film director. She held odd jobs in and around the Mobile area, until she began pulling scams at the Gulf Coast casinos around 1999. Bartenders and dealers in the Mobile area characterized her as "a casino harlot" who would routinely seduce rich men, drug them and rob them. She pulled these scams up and down the Gulf Coast, slyly and often in flawless disguises.

A casino hotel record in Biloxi, Mississippi confirms that she and Robert Price lodged there April 7-19, 2002. She has an apartment in Shreveport, Louisiana, though she hasn't been seen there since March 2004.

According to residents at the Heartsong Collective, Butler arrived at their farm in mid-August 2004 and gave her name as Dorian Butler. She had blood on her clothes and said her boyfriend had attacked her. They immediately took her in and she had lived with them from that day until her arrest on September 28, 2004. The Heartsong residents said Butler was very private and shared few personal details about her life before she appeared on their doorstep.
