Victim's Name: Valerie Vilson Age: 26
Address:1013 University Avenue #4, Oxford, MS 38655
Time of Incident: Between 1am and 10am, April 2, 1995
Suspects: Red headed man, indeterminate age.
Details of Offense: At 10:30 am, April 2, the Oxford Police department received a call from Ms. Vilson's neighbor. Upon investigation, the victim, Valerie Vilson, was found on the kitchen floor of her apartment laying on her side. The abdomen area was gouged by an weapon not found at the crime scene. In addition, there is a small caliber bullet wound at the base of the victim's skull.
Examination of the bedroom turned up a bloody pillow on the bed. In addition, vodka, marijuana and used condom wrappers were found near the right side of the bed.
Investigation: I talked with the neighbors in the building. Liz White, in apartment 3, said that at 11pm that evening she had seen Ms. Vilson with a red headed man at a local bar named Proud Larry's. She could give no description, because she had seen him from the rear. However, the two women briefly spoke while in the bathroom. According to the witness Ms. Vilson said, "Greg is from Chicago and he's got some killer smoke. (marijuana)." At closing time, 1am, the victim was seen leaving with the unidentified male.
Initial report from the Coroner, Dr. J. S. Smith, suggests sexual mutilation. The wounds found on the victim's abdomen extend to the genitals and according to Dr. Smith, "The genital wounds were intentional. But the even sicker thing is that these wound s were likely inflicted after she was killed by the bullet wound to the head."
The marijuana found in the apartment was of an unusual color, a dusty purple. I contacted Lt. Johnson at the county drug task force. He told me that 500 pounds of marijuana matching this description was intercepted in a shipping container from Chicago. The FBI now has jurisdiction over that case, but I am awaiting access to their investigation.
